we make exceptional merch.

that’s fresh designs on quality garms, produced to the highest standards.

sometimes it’s our own merch, sometimes it’s collaborations with businesses, brands, landmarks or places.

how we work

we have quickly become known for a few good things...

design that sells

we work with the best talent to produce merchandise known just as much for its eye-catching design as its product quality.

defined by quality

our garms are always made to the highest standards, using organic-certified, quality materials.

we've brought screenprinting, DTF printing and finishing home to macclesfield, enabling us to get close to the process and quality control.

conscious every step

our studio over the river is a daily reminder of the ecosystem we're working closely alongside.

every decision we make is guided by environmental and social impact, from what inks we use to what packaging we ship our products in.

elevating community

we believe that building and elevating culture and creative opportunities in our community will reap rewards both for us and for our home in equal measure.

we have a laff

we believe that creativity should be a joyful process, and that if we're having fun with it, then our community and collaborators more than likely are too.

there wasn't an obvious icon for having a larf so

^^here's a chicken^^.

it started with a single cap.

macclesfield sheep dog trials is an annual event held in a small field between the canal and an industrial estate on the outskirts of our beloved northern hometown.

the well-loved competition has one particularly excellent piece of merch - a cap, sold cash only - from the back door of the announcements truck.

tom, founder of tbu, was enamoured with his fine piece of headwear, so much so that he was barely seen without it for a couple of years.

compliments for the cap rained down from friends and acquaintances at home, across the country and abroad, whenever he wore it.

it got us thinking… what if we could make great clothing with awesome brands and passion points big and small?

what if we worked with great design talent? then what if we could help make that merch available to the people that want it by building a great website?

what if we went one step further and told the stories behind the merch? so, after teaming up with the sheep dog trials to sell their off-season caps online (and to raise off-season funds), we set out designing garms for other great northern passion points.

the macclesfield forest cap,

the best-selling cheshire matterhorn cap,

macclesfield canal waterski club and onwards...

these early pieces opened the doors to collaborations with great businesses on our doorstep and further afield, from cornershop running club around the corner to thisthat in london town.

what began as a curious experiment in 2023 is gaining momentum and traction, with some lovely collaborations, designs, causes and campaigns lined up for 2025.

what types of printing and decoration can you do for me?

we screenprint, DTF print and finish products (sewing in custom labels etc.)

i need garms fast fast. can you help?

because we're small and nimble, we can get the show on the road pretty quickly.

yes, there are some aspects of design and production we can't speed up, but others we're pretty quick with. mention it early on in our correspondence and we'll let you know what's possible.

do you work with brands who already have their design ducks in a row?

absolutely. there are lots of great brands out there that don't need too much help on the design-front. in that case, we can make sure the vector files translate in to excellent prints on beautiful garms.

is there a minimum order quantity?

yes, we generally work on the basis of minimum order quantities of 30 items. this is because setting up printing is quite labour intensive (and any fewer than 30 would make prices prohibitively high per item).

can you do my tees cheaper?

while we strive to keep prices as competitive as possible, we also pride ourselves in using good garms with a transparent, responsible supply chain. this means that yes, you might find cheaper blanks elsewhere, but it will be worse quality and it may have been made under dubious conditions.

shipping and returns

do you ship abroad?

for now, we've kept shipping to uk, usa and channel islands only. due to brexit, shipping to the eu is a bit tricky right now, but if you're realllllllly desperate for the item, email and we'll see what we can work out.

i'm not happy with my tbu garms

things do occasionally go wrong, we're the first to admit it. so whether it's a size issue or a print issue, we're happy to swap out or refund products within 90 days of purchase.

how do i return an item?

if you bought it in the last 90 days, send us an email through the form on the get in touch page and we'll take it from there.
